*An appraisal contingency means the buyer can back out if the house doesn’t appraise for the purchase price. There are 3 options at that point. The buyer can put up the difference as more down payment, you can lower your price by the difference, or the buyer can back out. An inspection contingency gives the buyer the right to have an inspection done and back out of the sale or negotiate a new price if there are repairs that need to be done. Similarly, a financing contingency gives the buyer the right to back out of the purchase if they can’t obtain a loan.
